Sad to hear about Southampton, I always liked them as a club. At one point they had Shearer, Rod Wallace, Danny Wallace, Le Tissier and Magilton and played all of them in the same eleven. Fair enough that team couldn't defend for toffee, but they were fun going forwardBig Grin

If Bobby Robson had've been allowed to carry on at that point Newcastle would probably be in the top 6 or 7 clubs now instead of the bottom 3....but I also feel that the fans aren't very helpful to the cause either....by demanding that only legends of their club Kevin Kegan, Alan Shearer et al they are hindering the chances of a new face coming in with new ideas and a fresh approach (which lets face it is probably what NUFC really need) and maybe turning there fortunes around.

I shouldnt really be complaining cos whilst Newcastle are in the shit its one less team challenging AVFC's run into Europe Big Grin

The biggest problem with the fans isn't so much insisting on legends, as insisting that the manager always plays beautiful, free-flowing, attacking football in a 4-4-2 formation. That was fine when Keegan was there the first time around and they had the cash to buy some top quality players, but not so easy to do these days with the current squad; only a handful of whom are good enough to play for a top six side.

Only just noticed this new thread Big Grin just post what i put in the other one on hear as well.
My question is were was he a few months ago when Keegan left why didn't he take the job back then. Someone told me that he's only taken it now because if they go down it's not his fault, if they stay up he's a god or if they go down and he brings them back up he's a god, makes sense to me.

In all honesty, I don't think the possibility of Newcastle going down had entered his head a few months ago. I really believe he's only taken the job now because he thinks the boost he might give the club he loves (and make no mistake, Shearer loves NUFC) might be enough to help them jump into a safe position and stay there 'til the end of the season. I'm not convinced he'll stay on even if he keeps them up. I know I'm from the north east, but I'm a Man Utd fan and he turned us down twice dammit, so it's not just a geordie being blinded by the name of Shearer.

I bed to differ i mean nothing at the club has changed since Joe Kinnear to over, they only had one win adn 4 points when he came in. Shearer said he didn't want the job at Newcastle at that time because of the situation that they were in but now all of a sudden he does. He was even offered a coaching role at the club when Kinnear took over which would have given him some experience but turned that down. There were even rumours going around that he wouldn't take the job while Ashley was at the club, Shearer himself said in a statement that the club was unstable and he wouldn't take the job, plus the fact that he'll get £1.8 million for eight matches, or £225,000 a game, or £2,500 a minute for the whole time he's there not bad for a few weeks work.

Barry Ferguson has been stripped of the Rangers captaincy as a punishment for his behaviour during Scotland's game against Iceland on Wednesday.
The midfielder, 31, was sent home from training along with goalkeeper Allan McGregor as punishment for being photographed appearing to flick the 'V' sign during Scotland's 2-1 victory.
Both players were dropped to the bench for the World Cup qualifier by manager George Burley after taking part in a late-night drinking session following Saturday night's defeat in Holland.
Ferguson, who was captain for both his club and country, and McGregor have also been summoned to a meeting with Rangers chief executive Martin Bain this afternoon.

Can't really blame them to be honest i mean wasn't right about going out on a bender after the Holland game was a bit stupid on there half.

....and having seen the footage it wasnt just a quick 2 fingered salute either! The pair of them were sat on the bench clearly for some considerable time making the gesture....still surprised they are banned for life for that though! Shy

It'sd not harse at all they broke the rules, if there not punished then it sets a bad example to the rest of the team, they didn't like being dropped the other night and they pulled v's up at the camera's which was wrong for them to do.
