Always wanted to build my own pc since the mid 90's always been shit scared of doing it. Got the knowledge and could prob do it but always bottle it thought of spending hundreds on a Motherboard and a cpu and do something wrong and wreck it. i do a lot of upgrades like ram graphics cards hard drives and the like its just the mother board im scared of touching lol

Think thats a thing with a lot of poeple, it doesn't help there so many different componants.

Pretty sure more than just those recomended chips would go in my motherboard, but I'd never have the confidance to just get one and slap it in. just in case it's a very expensive mistake.

physically the chips would fit. its the bios that would be an issue on that board.
you could however swap the motherboard out for another 775 out for something else.
but by the time you go that rout you will be spending serious money...

like i said the easiest rout is to buy the motherboard cpu and ram.
it looks daunting but ive seen 5 year olds build pc's (with a little guidance) so you guys should be able to do the same.
its not like building a pc back in the 90's where you had to place jumpers for cpu compatibility. now the hardest part is connecting the front panel wires.
basically if you havent built a pc before budget on 4 hours of build time. if you have the same build would take about an hour.

i dunno why you say out for a pc that age. all you would be keeping is the case, the hdds and your current gpu solution so your rig would be basically new for a 250-350 layout.
