RE: Russian Invasion Of Ukraine - misinformation thread - crankshaft - 24-05-2022 21:28 A posting about Azov Battallion taken from the website of Al-Jazeera (which I've now deleted, because it is not misinformation) was moved by the moderators of this forum from the “Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine” thread to this ‘misinformation’ thread about Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine. It is wilful ignorance to have moved this to a thread labelled “misinformation”. The vast majority of the information in the said post is from a mainstream media source (Al-Jazeera). I see that this forum’s moderators must be so very much enlightened to judge that a report from a mainstream information source should be considered misinformation. That said, mainstream media can get things spectacularly wrong - recall the Saddam chemical weapons 45-mins from hitting the UK story in 2003. I don’t believe, and indeed it is a plainly absurd notion that Al-Jazeera have punted out misinformation in this instance by comparison. I think the moderators have made a bad call here On the subject of misinformation, here's a couple: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10554269/Ukraine-DESTROYS-Russian-convoy-Zelenskys-troops-derail-Kremlin-push-Kyiv.html & https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-61183056 In regard to the latter, here is a confutation of this: https://mronline.org/2022/05/02/heres-what-i-found-at-the-reported-mass-grave-near-mariupol/ RE: Russian Invasion Of Ukraine - misinformation thread - seducedx6 - 25-05-2022 01:34 (21-05-2022 23:31 )seducedx6 Wrote: Without getting drawn into the specific claims and counter-claims, as someone who mostly taught themself about researching in pre-internet times, when I had to trawl a number of libraries for some things.. the only way to get the best approximation of truth and reality, is by looking at as many sources as possible, and cross-checking them. Not only am I not sure why my quoted post is in this thread. I'm not sure what is the point of this thread?! If disagreements are allowed on this forum, then why cobble together a segregated thread of disagreeing posts?! The point the quoted post starts with, is pertinent across the forum, and far beyond! If you're making a point that needs to be supported by references, you should be cross-checking as many sources as possible, including those that challenge the point you seek to make. That counts for points that support a mainstream consensus, no less than those that diverge from it. Otherwise, misinformation and disinformation is more guaranteed, than a fully open discussion, based on the best information available. |
