Not true actually. Cantona wasn't provoked by anything foul or obscene because he didn't hear what was said. Even the person right next to the one who shouted at Cantona has said that the words weren't audible, because the crowd were booing Cantona so loudly it was impossible to hear.

Cantona certainly claimed to be have suffered 'racial' abuse and foul remarks about his mother, but even if this had happened he would not have heard it. He also claimed that the person in question threw a missile at him, but the footage of the incident proved that this wasn't true either.

ok whatever. Unlike you I wasnt in the crowd that day and based my comments on what I had read Obviously the press lied, which is nothing new though I seem to recall the abuser had a criminal record for violent behaviour. Of course this doesn't make him a thug. Anyway, it still does not detract from the fact that Suarez is a low life animal who will not be able to stop biting others and has got off lightly.

I don't think the press lied as such. I think they just took Cantona's 'explanation' as a fact.

You're right the guy had a criminal record - attempted robbery of a petrol station 3 yrs before.

I think to be fair this is such as awkward question to answer. Is Suarez mentally ill and if so should we punish him at all. I mean biting, surely its not something he intended to do, maybe he's got some sort of tourette's condition.

I think he most certainly needs psychiatric help. It was such an unusual attack that it doesn't seem plausible that it was something he intended to do in the first place. I've seen some vicious attacks on the field of play in which there was no doubt it was meant, with Suarez I just don't know.

The only person I think that can truly answer the Suarez question is a qualified psychiatrist.

Personally i think after a third incident like this that 4 months is about on par as a punishment, however i feel that the 4 months ban should not go towards pre-season time and should be 4 months in competitive season games/time only.
Hope that makes sense i can be awful at trying to explain most basic things sometimes :/

Let them know men did this

Biting his opponent , "was not something he intended" ???
Are you having a laugh ? He's done the same thing 3 times !
The world cup one and the Chelsea one ,were virtually identical .
Defender tightly marks Suarez ,preventing him the space to attack a pass into area .He can't shake off defender ,so he bites him in an act of childish petulance .
Even the defender's involved both react the same way ;shocked ,amazed and disgusted at what he's done to them both .They even pull their shirt collars back to show everyone what he's done.
It's like saying Vinnie Jones didn't intend grabbing Gascoignes bollocks .Course he did ,the same way Suarez did .Both trying to stop their opponents with obscene foulplay
The Cantona "incident" was sparked by the Palace "fan" running down 20 steps to the front so he could abuse Cantona .He's the prominent figure screaming and gesturing at Cantona ,who as just been sent off .While he was totally out of order and the kick was totally outrageous ,he'd had enough abuse to make him "snap".
Top and bottom of the 2 bans is Cantona was genuinely provoked "unlawfully".Whereas Suarez was "provoked"within the rules of the game .
N.B. Vinnie Jones got away with his ,because there was no TV footage and the ref never spotted it , only a photographer !
