Another set-back for England as Carse has been ruled out for the remainder of the competition due to a reoccurrence of a toe injury which he has been managing for some time, he bowled poorly against Australia, but was clearly in discomfort. His form over the winter has been good, & considered worth the gamble with plenty of seam bowling cover in the squad. His place in todays match goes to Jamie Overton, however England have called up Rehan Ahmed as a squad replacement which gives them an option of a second front-line spinner along with Rashid. Livingstone & Root have been sharing the 5th bowling option.

Mark Wood pulled up during his 3rd over, managed to complete it after some medical consultation, but has left the field. It looked like a knee issue.

I had high hopes for us in this but it was not to be. If Root had stuck around for a bit longer I think we could have sneaked it.
I wouldn't know who could take over from Jos Buttler if he was to step down but clearly our white ball cricket has gone a little backward. It's the third group exit from a competition and something clearly has gone wrong and to me for some players it looks a lot like the strain is getting to several and injuries occcuring and maybe a loss of confidence. Has Bazball finally run out of steam?

South Africa won by 7 wickets

No great surprise that Jos Buttler has announced that he is to stand down as England's white-ball captain after the South Africa game.

to be honest I think he has probably found Eoin Morgan a tough act to follow, and I wonder now who could do the job and revitalise the teams' morale and give it the shot of cionfidence that it is lacking. The other thing that is concerning that if Wood's knee injury is a bad as thought, him having surgery could make him a doubt for Australia next winter. Many see Harry Brook as Buttler's succcesor, but then Would Brook be ready to take on the role? Just one of many many questions with our white ball game that needs answering.

Our main problem as far as I can work out, is that when we focus on getting success in one format - other formats suffer, and we don't progress and we only to have to look at Afghanistan and see how they have progressed so quickly in limited overs cricket.
